Water Pollution to be Prevented with Artificial Intelligence
In the English coastal resort of Combe Martin, a pilot project is coming to life in the hope that artificial intelligence (AI) will help improve water quality. Sensors placed in rivers and fields will paint a picture of the state of local rivers, rainfall and soil. The AI will then combine this data with localised land use reflected in satellite imagery. AI will predict when river systems are most vulnerable to elements such as agricultural waste. This will enable measures to be taken, such as farms delaying fertiliser applications. Computer systems company CGI is running the AI project with Ordnance Survey, a mapping specialist company. CGI said a test drive had an accuracy of more than 90 per cent.
