IAEA Protested

Hundreds of people marched in the South Korean capital Seoul on Saturday to demand that Japan abandon plans to dump treated wastewater from the damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea, as the United Nations' nuclear agency met with senior officials to discuss public concerns over food safety. Japanese officials had stated that the pollution level of the water pumped from the plant would be within acceptable standards and would not have a significant impact on South Korean seas as long as the plant's treatment systems were functioning properly. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) also gave the green light to Japan's discharge plans, stating that the treated effluent would meet international safety standards and have negligible environmental and health impacts.
