Gulf Stream System Could Collapse by 2025
In a new study, researchers have revealed that the Gulf Stream system could collapse as early as 2025. It was noted that the end of vital ocean currents, called the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (Amoc) by scientists, would bring disastrous climate effects. It was already previously known that the Amoc was at its weakest in 1,600 years due to global warming. But researchers have identified warnings that there is a threshold point in 2021. The new analysis predicts that such a collapse in the system will occur between 2025 and 2095 in a scenario where global carbon emissions are not reduced, with predictions centred on the year 2050.
