The severe drought that has been going on in Brazil for a while has caused the drawings that have been submerged in the Amazon River to become easily recognizable. In the city of Manaus in the north of the country, images of human faces carved into rocks have been discovered. Some of these drawings were seen by archaeologists in 2010 during the ongoing drought, but experts say they have discovered a greater variety of drawings this time. The faces carved into the rocks are located along the coastline known as Ponta das Lajes, where the Rio Negro and Solimoes rivers flow into the Amazon. Archaeologist Jaime Oliveira told local media that the faces were made by people who lived in the area before the discoveries of Italian explorer Christopher Columbus, the BBC reported.
